ARCH1101 EXP2: Architectural Concepts

Architectural Concepts

Alvar Aalto:
Alvar uses the practice of fine arts to refine his ability to conceptualise a building as an organic whole; create structures that are both functional and human and connected all levels. His exploration of the expressionist style, specifically German expressionism, allows for the presentation and exploration of the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke intense moods or ideas. The geometric format implies a very clean and sharp facade, that is both functionally and visually aesthetic to the surrounding area. This minimalistic approach also allows Alvar to creates simple yet structurally elegant formations

Mad Architects:
The gradually stacked format of their designs, creates an intrinsic semi-free forming. The organic structure of the buildings, mimic that of natural free forming phenomenon, such as waves. The free forming buildings apply provide the natural aesthetic to the landscape it is placed in. The ongoing facade on their buildings creates an asymmetrical building design, insist the idea of disconnection to the urban polygonal landscape it has been set in.
